Welcome to your first mission - Are you ready

So as you can see, my blog is now titled
"Fashion on a mission".

That is because this year I have decided to take on the challenge of Spotlighting and Supporting twelve...yes you heard right "TWELVE" Causes and Foundations on their mission to raise awareness, support and funding to continue doing their Awesome hard work!

BUT...I can't do this alone...I Need YOUR Help.
So my question to you Fabulous Fashionistas is...
Are You Ready!!!

And with that I would like to fill you in on our first mission of the year. For the month of January we will be supporting the Care for Crohn's Foundation

Their mission is to help mentor and support teens and young adults with Crohn’s Disease. Their Goal is to educate on the importance of nutrition and provide supportive services to help our youth cope with the disease and enhance their quality of life. The
Care for Crohn's Foundation wants fellow Crohnies (one who has Crohn's) to know that they are not alone, and there are others like them who can relate.  Crohn's disease is nothing to be ashamed of, people are afraid of what they don’t know, so if we stay quiet, no one will ever know what Crohn’s disease is.

For the record...
Crohn's Disease was named after Dr. Burrill B. Crohn, who first described the disease in 1932 as a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract.

Crohn’s disease belongs to a group of conditions known as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). IBD is classified as mainly two diseases Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Crohns Disease is a chronic inflammatory condition in which inflammation can occur anywhere from the mouth to the anus. Ulcerative Colitis is a chronic inflammatory condition that can occur only in the colon.

Recognizing the Signs and Symptoms

Crohn’s disease can affect any part of the GI tract. While symptoms vary from patient to patient and some may be more common than others,
the tell-tale symptoms of Crohn’s disease include:

  • Persistent Diarrhea
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Urgent need to move bowels
  • Abdominal cramps and pain
  • Sensation of incomplete evacuation
  • Constipation (can lead to bowel obstruction)

So now I would like for you to meet the Founder of CARE for Crohn's Foundation, Sybille Guichard.

Sybille was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease when she was 14 years old. Her  symptoms started two years prior to her diagnosis, and with that came the endless abdominal pains, drastic weight loss, rectal bleeding, painful bowels, loss of appetite, high fevers, joint pains and abscesses, and anemia.

She knows the pain of being a High School student dealing with long periods of hospital stays and vividly remembers feeling misunderstood, wishing she knew someone else her age with Crohn’s who could relate.

Her website CARE for Crohns Foundation is full of Awesome resources to help you Navigate through this difficult disease. There's a Nutri-Corner where you can find Healthy eating advice along with links to businesses that serve Healthier options such as Gluten-free and Organic food to keep a Crohnie's tummy happy.

But my favorite is the Crohnie talk section where she interviews fellow Crohnie's! There is also a Shop section where you can find these Fab "Keep Calm and Date a Crohnie" clothing.  Also check out their Events section where you can keep up with upcoming Chronie events!

I always remember feeling misunderstood, and I wished I knew someone else my age with Crohn’s who could relate.  With that said, I felt it was up to me to start a movement to make a difference for teens and other young adults who keep quiet,
in embarrassment, of the disease.

The purple tears represents Crohn's Disease

And with this in mind Sybille created -Crohnie Talk

Crohnie talk features three Beautiful girls named (from left to right) Kristi Hinkle, Alisha Lacroix, and Kelsey Cavanaugh.Watch as they each share their stories on when they were diagnosed and the symptoms they suffered prior to their diagnosis.
